My name is Hannah T. and I earned a B.A. in American studies with a concentration in law, government, and political policy in American society, June 2011 from Stanford University. I am a happy alum of Castilleja School, having attended from 6th through 12th grade.
In the past two years, I have had experience with one-on-one tutoring for K-12 and college students in the following subjects: English and writing; SAT 1, ACT, SSAT, AP English language and composition; ESL English; mathematics (pre-algebra, algebra 1, geometry), science, AP U.S. and AP European History, and Mandarin Chinese. I have also provided admissions consulting and essay writing advice for middle and high school application essays to prestigious private schools, as well as during the college application process. As a pre-law American Studies major, I love obsessing over semantics, outlining papers, proofreading meticulously, and every aspect of the writing process. My objective is to help students find their unique voice and articulate their ideas. I am also bilingual in Mandarin Chinese having grown up in a first generation family, taught ESL students from China, Taiwan, and Japan, and assisted on Mandarin interpretation at Stanford Law School's Immigrants' Rights Clinic.
I was a National Merit Scholar and received perfect scores (5) on the AP English, AP European history, AP Calculus, and AP U.S. history exams. My SAT Verbal was an 800. Testimonials from my previous clients are available upon request. Parents rave about my role in their child's achievement of 1-2 letter grade improvements on average, and growth in intellectual excitement and confidence. In the past, most students make significant improvement in the first month or two of tutoring, and they also enjoy their sessions. I love to make learning fun and adore children. I enjoy tutoring study skills, time management, to-do lists, deadlines, procrastination, and executing a strategy for essays and projects.
For the past few years, I have tutored students from elite Bay Area private and public schools. I substitute teach for an AP U.S. History course. I maintain solid friendships and frequently meet with professors, faculty, and staff at Stanford and Castilleja.
During Stanford, I have had experience tutoring classmates across different subjects, coordinating study groups and review sessions, and organizing final exam outlines for eclectic subjects. Studying for finals can be fun!
In high school, I enjoyed assisting in humanities, history, math, science subjects. I love helping classmates and friends achieve a solid grasp of a particular subject and gaining confidence in their intellect and their abilities.
My goal is to inspire the student to love learning and to empower them with confidence. I was fortunate to have passionate instructors who inspired and transformed me by causing me to fall in love with their subjects, and I hope to do the same for your child! I would be more than happy to chat for a complimentary initial call about my pedagogical approach and goals for tutoring.
