I participated in the HOSTS, or Helping One Student to Succeed, and the Young Spartans Programs while attending Michigan State University. The purpose of these programs was to improve the reading skills of at-risk elementary students. I also participated in Science Theatre, which brought fun science skits to various elementary schools. I also volunteered in 2009 at Columbian Elementary in Denver.
I have had a strong interest in pursuing a teaching career for many years and tutoring would provide excellent experience. With the United States falling behind other developed countries in science and mathematics, there is a strong need to provide our young students with the a strong foundation in these subjects. Since September, I have been a Substitute Teacher Aide with a local middle school. I have experience working in the STEM field prior to my most recent position.
I took classes took two courses at Michigan State University and courses at Metro State College of Denver in 2007, which would count towards a B.A. degree in Education. I obtained B.S.(1999) and M.S. (2004) degrees in Electrical Engineering, both from Michigan State University.
