Hello!

My name is Luke. I am an experienced, dynamic tutor offering personalized private instruction in English/Writing, organization and study skills, and many standardized tests, including the SAT/PSAT, ACT, ISEE/SSAT, and AP/SAT II subject tests. I also provide specialized advice on how to write competitive essays for college applications, as well as proofreading services for college and postgraduate students. While I live in Palo Alto, I can travel throughout most of the Bay Area to make house calls for lessons.

I am Harvard and Stanford educated (BA English) with more than 8 years of tutoring experience. If you are taking the SAT for the first time and want to make sure you are prepared, I can help you. If you are looking to improve your score, we can build a lesson plan that targets your specific strengths and weaknesses.

I have helped many students do better on standardized tests by emphasizing test-taking strategies, and focusing on the individual needs of the student. Recently, in addition to my independent lessons, I have taught SAT prep at the Stanford Medical Youth Math and Science program, KIPP King Collegiate High School, and the Level Playing Field Institute in San Francisco. All of my students saw dramatic improvement in their results and their confidence.

My area of expertise is writing instruction, and I offer an array of services from spot editing to basic instruction in style and grammar. I have helped clients ranging from beginning writers to university professors improve their writing, and I look forward to helping you.

My rate is $80/hr for all services, including consultation appointments more than 20 minutes. Most students find 5-10 sessions sufficient to feel fully prepared for whatever academic challenges they may face; a quick survey of the internet will show that this is more affordable than any of the corporate tutoring centers (which will charge more, and provide a less personalized service).

How do I receive a discount?

Save between 5 and 15% on tutoring by purchasing credit with one of our prepaid discount packages. You can buy one of our standard 5, 10 or 15% packages or customize your own package based on how much tutoring you need. The credit you purchase can be used towards any tutor at any time and does not expire. If you do not use the entire package, we will simply deduct what you did spend on tutoring from your original purchase price and give you a refund. Discount packages start as low as $190.
