The 1992 "Los Angeles Riots" proved to be a turning point for my life. Living at that time in Echo Park, I found myself in the middle of the conflict. Struck by the pathos of the chaos, I made a decision, to become an agent for change. Believing education to be the key to this objective, I became a highly effective, inner-city Elementary Math Coach and Teacher.

My success with students not only showed up with improved test scores of students, but in their joy of learning. I coached many teachers on how to use 'Best Practices' in teaching CA State Standards in Mathematics. My methodology of teaching mathematics is the 'Four Fold Way'. A student learns best by using different modalities. If a student can express the math problem with a drawing, with numbers, with an algebraic expression, and in writing then the understanding is complete. Learning is wonderful.

Elementary Math

I was the Math Coach at Miles Ave. Elementary School from 2002 to 2007. My responsibility consisted of preparing staff development in Math from grades K-6 to over a hundred teachers. In 2002 Miles Ave was the largest elementary school in Los Angeles Unified School District with over 3,000 students. Miles Ave CA. I have a California 'Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential' General Subjects (Examination) Emphasis BCLAD Spanish. This credential authorizes me to teach all subjects k through 12 in a self-contained classroom, or regroup students in various configurations, and to teach in classes organized primarily for adults. I am credentialed to provide services to limited-English-proficient pupils: instruction for English language development in grades twelve and below.
