Hey I'm Jason. I've been playing guitar and studying music theory and composition since I was 13. I graduated Crossroads High School in Santa Monica as a music major and recieved a fellowship to UCSB in Music Compisition.
I started giving guitar lessons when I was 16, mainly to kids at my high school. In college I picked up 8 personal students, and I began to craft a basic lesson template based which was customizable of course, on degree of experience. At the same time I started work at the Santa Barbara Rock Academy and I became the Lead Guitar instructor for the school. The students there were ages 6-14, at first I didn't know how I would do teaching middle and elementary school students, but I found that I loved it. I especially loved teaching the kids about modern music history.
Through all of this as a musician I worked as a session guitarist as well as band leader of multiple groups playing playing crowds of up to 30,000 people across the country. As a guitarist I became immersed in every style: Jazz, Shredding, Neo Classical, Rock, Blues, Heavy Metal, Country, Funk, Punk, Rockabilly, Folk. My personal favorite style is Progressive Rock.
As a guitarist and Composer my influences are Eddie Van Halen, Darrell Lance Abbot, Randy Rhodes, Allan Holdsworth, Steve Vai, Frank Zappa, Tosin Abasi, Alex Lifeson, Tony Iommi, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Beethoven, Bach, Debussy, Stravinsky, Chopin, George Russell...
I also tutor in History and Biology
As a composer I recieved multiple corwin awards for small ensemble, large ensemble and string quartet. Being a composer greatly improved my guitar playing and with all my guitar students I implement a good deal of compositional tools.
I absolutely love music history and with all musical subjects I teach I always provide historical context for techniques and influences of whatever player the student likes.
