Hello, my name is Elizabeth and I am a graduate of Columbia University specializing in Latin and Italian tutoring. I have an extensive background in Latin. In high school I took Latin AP Virgil. I majored in Classics at Columbia, taking classes such as Latin Elegy, where I read from authors such as Catullus, Tibullus and Propertius. This past year I completed the course Latin Literature of the Republic, where I read the works of Virgil, Sallust, Terrence, Ennius, Naevius, Lucretius, Ovid and Lucilius. My junior year I studied abroad at Duke's Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies in Rome. Abroad I was able to take a Latin class on Seneca, a Greek class on Homer's Iliad, and a history class on Rome in it's entirety. In Rome I was also able to perfect my Italian through very intense Italian immersion.
I have a very solid knowledge of Latin grammar and literature and have immensely enjoyed my past Latin tutoring for high school students. My tutoring technique is very directed at the students needs and weaknesses in the language. We focus in on specific grammatical elements with careful explanation, working together through various exercises in order to strengthen the student's confidence in the subject. I am a very patient tutor. If a student does not grasp a concept I design numerous other ways to explain it in order that the concept be made clear. I offer positive encouragement in addition to realism in what the student must concentrate on for optimum improvement. I have always had very positive relationships with my past students, becoming a friend rather than just a tutor.
Please contact me if you are interested in my tutoring services. Looking forward to working with you!
