My approach to tutoring is informed by my past academic struggles. When I was a freshman at Princeton, I quickly realized that my high school, located in an economically depressed area in south Texas, had not adequately prepared me for the diverse range of college coursework. Having had to overcome that, I know the frustration and self-defeating strategies--like procrastination--that students often develop and I am especially sensitive to supporting my students. Sometimes that means being firm, but more often it means celebrating the small successes. I graduated from Princeton with flying colors and graduation day was the proudest moment in my life. I want all of my students to have that moment, which is why I hold myself to the highest standards as a tutor, and why I love to teach. In my lessons, I strive to be creative about different ways to present the material. The added benefit is that neither of us gets bored!
I specialize in preparing students for the SAT, PSAT, and ACT. On occasion, I work with two other companies, Top Test Prep and Ivy League Tutors, doing just that. I also tutor up to college-level English and grammar, high school science and math, as well as study skills.
I offer free consultations to new students and their parents. Typically these consultations consist of a discussion about goals and expectations, as well as a timeline to accomplish those goals. The consultation also gives me a good idea as to what diagnostics to use and what the first few lesson plans will be.
I have a 100% satisfaction policy. I never bill a lesson in which the parent or student is not completely satisfied with my tutoring.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you reach your goals!
