I have more than 10 years of experience as a personal one on one in-home tutor. Specifically I have worked with students to help them succeed in both standardized test prep (SAT I, SAT II, ACT) and a wide variety of academic subjects within the Mathematics/Statistics/Physics domain. Specific courses include: pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Statistics, AP Calculus, AP Physics, and AP Statistics. I was a National Merit Semifinalist my senior year in high school, which just means I scored in the 99th percentile on the SAT I test. (I am probably more proud of my 680 Verbal Score than my 760 Math score!). I feel extremely confident that I can help ANY student raise their standardized SAT I or ACT math scores significantly. I am also somewhat unique in my very strong Statistics background. Many students have more difficulty with Statistics than even, say, Calculus, (even though the mathematics required in a basic statistics course rarely goes beyond Algebra I techniques) because it is the concepts that can be so difficult to understand without effective explanations. My academic background includes a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from U.C. Berkeley in 1988 and a Master's of Science (M.S.) degree in Statistics from Cal State East Bay - Hayward campus earned in June of 2007. In addition, I have completed all coursework for Master's Degree in Mathematics - also from CSUEB - Hayward. I have worked as an Engineer in Silicon Valley, including a short stint working for NASA. At this point I am making my career as a Professional Tutor and you can depend on both my quality and sense of Professional Responsibility. Tutoring is not a game for me ... although I have a pretty good sense of humor and the best part of the job is having fun with the students I work with while at the same time helping them improve their skills and knowledge. I look forward to introducing myself to you in person and being able to help you. I know the subjects that I tutor so my main focus will not be on impressing you with my knowledge but rather to help YOU improve YOUR abilities in a subject or subjects that you might currently be struggling with. The best motivating story I can tell you is about a high school friend of mine who failed Algebra I and had to go to summer school to retake it. But ... a couple of years later I ran into him in the summer between our freshman and sophomore years in college and, to be quite honest, was quite surprised when he told me he was working towards his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, which requires pretty hardcore math for many courses. Obviously, through his own hard work, and likely a little help from others, he "figured out" what had previously caused him to fail Algebra and was able to become an Engineer which means, for all extents and purposes he became a Professional Applied Mathematician ... pretty neat! The Story's Moral: It is NEVER too late to learn even if you are struggling now.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 2

The Algebra II and Trigonomety course builds on the foundations developed in both Algebra I and Geometry. I have an extensive level of knowledge and expertise in all of these subjects. In addition, my knowledge of even more advanced subjects such as Calculus and Linear Algebra can be used to provide additional motivating contexts for learning this challenging subject.

Biostatistics

I have an M.S. in applied statistics from California State University East Bay (CSUEB). I have a substantial amount of experience tutoring statistics from the basic to more advanced levels. I specifically enjoy tutoring statistics. I am passionate about the subject. I work with students at THEIR level of comprehension and always demonstrate how they can use the sometimes difficult concepts of Statistics to solve practical problems.

Geometry

Extensive experience tutoring Geometry both at High School level and at level tested upon by the SAT and ACT exams. Geometry can be difficult "conceptually" for some students and my "philosophy" with respect to the subject is to focus on making sure the underlying concepts are clear. Once that is accomplished you will be surprised at how much easier the subject will be for you.

Precalculus

I have tutored many students effectively in Precalculus. I work with the student's way of learning and gently guide the student to the most optimal form of reasoning to be successful.
