I am currently a second semester Junior music student at Chapman University in Orange. In terms of what I can tutor in music, I've given piano lessons, clarinet lessons, tutored music theory and sight singing as most feel I am qualified due to the fact I am patient and very knowledgeable in music. I have passed all 10 levels in piano for the Certificate of Merit and finished at level 8 for Clarinet. I have been qualified for the Certificate of Merit convention as well. Currently I have finished all levels of music theory at my school as well as finishing up my last semester of Aural Skills for sight singing and dictation. I also passed my piano proficiency for Chapman during my first semester as a freshman. Most music tutoring simply requires practice. Each session includes review from the last lesson as well as new material. After each chapter or lesson, a quiz will be given to check the current standing of the students to make sure that there is an improvement. However, studying will mostly be the student's responsibility as music requires practice.
As for other subjects, I have tutored in elementary education, specifically 5th grade level. I usually give worksheets for reading comprehension and math. My method is to watch as students complete the worksheets on their own first. After checking the worksheets, any mistakes will be marked and returned to the student as they are given a second chance to check for the mistake. If the mistake cannot be found, then I will give them an explanation, slowly leading to the answer, allowing the student to come to the conclusion without being given the answer immediately. This allows the student to be able to think for themselves while not depending on the tutor for answers. I can also help with any school homework if there is any.
I currently tutor in basic Chinese as well where my method for that is to practice speaking, writing and reading Chinese. I usually will give the student 10 new characters per session where their homework will be 10 repetitions per character with phonetics as well. Grammar and reading will be covered per chapter and at the end of every session, a quiz will be given on characters whereas at the end of every chapter will be a quiz on grammar, reading, and vocabulary. The quizzes as time goes will be cumulative as students start forming more complex sentences.
I took Algebra 1 as an 8th grader and received a high A in the class. For my math level, I have taken up to Calculus in college. I have also tutored a student in Algebra a few years ago when the student was struggling. Now the student has thrived, currently taking Pre-Calculus as a senior in high school.
I am a music performance major with instrumental emphasis on Clarinet at Chapman University. I currently am in my 3rd year of study. I have played the clarinet for 11 years and passed Level 8 in the Certificate of Merit, which I also have a convention qualification for. I was also second chair at the Cazadero Music Camp during my senior year in high school, played the 2nd clarinet part in my high school's musical, as well as qualified for Contra Costa County's Honor Band. I have also recently passed my upper division proficiency at Chapman and partook in Chapman's Wind Symphony as well as Orchestra. I partook in the performances for the operetta, The Merry Widow. I have also performed with the Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra on their debut performance at the Walt Disney Concert Hall as well as their debut concert series in London, England.
As for teaching, during my freshman year, I coached two students on beginning clarinet lessons. One was a 5th grader, while the other was a 7th grader. I also taught them music theory alongside their clarinet lessons.
I am a current music performance major with instrumental emphasis on the clarinet. The degree for the major entails taking all four levels of Music Theory. I have finished all levels with Music Theory with at least a B+ but usually average with A-. I have also passed all 10 levels of Certificate of Merit which in each level entails a theory exam.
In terms of tutoring, I have helped many students throughout my years of learning theory to teach them. As of recent, I have been tutoring a piano music student on level 4 of the certificate of merit in terms of music theory.
I have completed all 10 levels of the certificate merit piano exams which include playing scales, arpeggios, sight reading, and repertoire pieces. I have been playing the piano for 16 years now and have also passed Chapman's proficiency exam which included playing scales, sight reading, playing a piece as an accompaniment and a counterpoint piece by Bach. I have gotten awards in Contra Costa County's Sonata Contests in the past which includes two 1st place trophies, one 2nd place trophy, and a 3rd place trophy. I have also received two plaques in Contra Costa County's Baroque Festival and have qualified for the California state convention in the past.
For teaching, I occasionally teach a 5th grader on his piano studies as he is on level 4 of the certificate of merit level system during my school breaks.
