My name is Kristen and I am a 2012 graduate from the University of La Verne. I studied Biology during my undergraduate years, but my real passion is for education. I am currently working towards my teaching credential and a Master's in Education. I plan on becoming an elementary school teacher in the future.
I have always loved the sciences and the natural world; however, I know for most students this is not the case. Many times children tend to see science as a subject that is incredibly more difficult than the rest. I want to share my love of science with others and make it easy to understand. During my undergraduate career, I was able to work professors and elementary teachers on a research project that allowed me to teach inside elementary school classes. I developed several science lesson plans that were laboratory activity based. I saw amazing results in the student's knowledge increase and in their attitudes, sometimes up to 40%!
I have to continued to work with students to better improve my own teaching and to help make learning easier and more enjoyable. I have been focusing on teaching a variety of subjects over the past two years, and practicing what I am learning through my graduate program.
