My name is Roxzana and I am excited to be tutoring with WyzAnt! I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara in Cultural Anthropology and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in English and American Literature. I have been a teacher of English and American Literature, Language Arts, and ESL (English as a Second Language) in both secondary and university settings for over 20 years. I also enjoy teaching drama and creative writing. Recently, I have been working extensively with students who have a variety of special needs in alternative education settings while also teaching for an online university. For 13 years my family and I lived in Japan and Brazil, where I was a teacher in various government, private, and international schools, and we are now fully engaged in life the States! I have a great passion for teaching and helping students to achieve their academic goals and dreams. I enjoy spending time with my husband and son, surfing, jogging, creative writing, and theater. I am also completely fluent in Portuguese and have much experience in written and spoken translation.
Throughout my years of teaching, I have learned that it is important to bring all aspects of my expertise and training to any setting in which I am working, while maintaining a student-centered, holistic, and individualized approach that focuses on the immediate and long-term goals of the student. I relish the challenge of creating lesson plans that help students achieve their objectives and to succeed in school and beyond.
I look forward to working with you!
I have been an instructional aide in a special day class for three years (Oceanside Unified School District) and have been substitute teaching special education students going on five years now (North Coastal Consortium for Special Education). I currently work with emotionally disturbed teens, in particular, and many of them have ADD/ADHD. My son, age 8, has autism and has components of ADD/ADHD which I have been trained to work with; I work consistently with my son's behavioral therapists on how to manage these behaviors. Lastly, each school district I have worked with has many training seminars and workshops which we must attend to handle various special needs, including ADD/ADHD.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology, with a focus on cultural anthropology. Coupled with this, I taught Social Studies at a prestigious private school in Brazil for a year and a half. I have traveled extensively and have used my knowledge to teach students of all ages for over 20 years.
I have extensive experience with students who have Aspergers. I have worked in six different school districts in California--and abroad in Brazil and Japan--and have worked with both mainstream and special day class students with Aspergers. I have been a special day class aide for 3 years in the Oceanside Unified School District and work in various special education classrooms in the North Coastal Consortium for Special Education. Lastly, I have been trained in ABA therapy and other strategies to help students with Aspergers.
I would like to think I am an expert of sorts on autism, as my very own son is on the autism spectrum. We have been working with various agencies in-home to help him with his behavior and his academics and I have been able to generalize what I have learned to teach other students. I have received much parent training from these agencies. I have also been a special education aide for three years and a special education substitute teacher for five years now in the Oceanside Unified School District and the North Coastal Consortium for Special Education (NCCSE).
I have been a Bible-believing Christian for 26 years and have attended Bible-believing churches since I was 17 years old. I currently teach Junior High School Sunday school at my local Baptist Church and attend two other Bible studies weekly, along with our morning church service. I believe I am qualified to offer quality Biblical instruction to students of all ages.
I have been working with special needs and neurotypical elementary school students for over 20 years as both a teacher and an instructional aide. I currently hold a secondary (high school) single subject credential in English; some of my coursework for this was general education studies that I apply to my teaching of younger children. I currently work as a substitute teacher with various school districts so I work with elementary students every week!
I have a Master of Arts degree in English and have taught reading to students of all ages. I am also fluent in 2 languages and proficient in 4 so I am able to understand the challenges of learning a new language as well!
I have a Bachelor or Arts Degree in anthropology and part of my program required religious studies classes; one of my classes for my BA was an honor's course, in which I received a grade of "A." I am also a Bible-believing Christian who has done extensive study of all types of religions all over the world, including Christian denominations of all types. I can speak and teach authoritatively on Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Islam, and Christianity and, again, on various types of these religions.
My life has centered extensively on special needs education as my own son has autism. We have worked a great deal with him with various agencies to improve both his academics and his behavior. Along with this, I have been an instructional aide in a special day class for three years in the Oceanside Unified School District and a substitute teacher of students with various special needs for five years with the North Coastal Consortium for Special Education.
I have a Master of Arts degree in English and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology. I graduated with a 4.0 from my Master's program and a 3.86 from my secondary single-subject teaching credential program. Along with this, I have been a teacher for over 20 years in various arenas and for all age groups, including special needs. I believe that, with so much successful schooling and teaching (that requires much knowledge of learning strategies), that I am able to employ all that I know to help other students achieve success in their studies.
