I love to learn. Even when I'm not in school I have to be gaining knowledge, even if the knowledge is from a simple article on Wikipedia. Everything is an interconnected process and examining the process and analyzing what actions in the past were the "flap of a butterfly wing" that brought us where we are today. That's why I love the study of history. By nature, studying history constantly reminds you that even those perceived as small have the ability to change the world. I am a fourth year student at the University of Chicago (USNWR ranking #5) currently on leave and anticipating a winter 2014 graduation. When it comes to any subject that I provide aid in it's always about identifying patterns and relationships. I apply this approach to every subject but I find it is most helpful in composition, social studies, and math. I try my best to do so with languages especially focusing on grammar patterns.
I studied French all 4 years in high school, 3 of which were honors level. I also took two French courses in college. I studied Russian for one quarter at the college level. I continue to pursue study of both languages in my spare time. I received Advanced Placement scores of 4 in Literature and Composition, Psychology, and European History. I took math at honors level all 4 years in high school. I haven't ever provided formal tutoring but have always been on hand when I had a friend who was having trouble grasping a concept. It was always fun to me because it reopens your eyes about subjects you don't face everyday. I have, however, over the past 4 years, choreographed for a dance company on my college campus. UC Dancers is an all-levels dance company and sometimes you were teaching basic position and turns to someone who had never even done a plié. In addition to that I taught my husband to speak French. I am also extremely confident in my ability to tutor in the subjects that I advertise. It would be a waste of my time and the client's money if I was not actually improving the student's performance! I am open to exploring other subjects with a student on request if I can provide quality service at the level needed.
