I have taught both 3rd and 4th grades for a total of 20 years, so definitely know what is required above and below these grade levels. I enjoy helping K-2 students grasp the basics of a subject using short term rewards and games. It is a joy to tutor the 3rd-6th grades by showing them fun learning and study techniques so they can gain confidence, thus becoming more independent in their home study time.
I love to help kids learn to love math, or at least like it and not fear it. I have many ways to teach, review, and encourage students so that they get it. I am patient and gentle and help develop their confidence so they can be successful in math.
I have taught the new Common Core as well as the standard algorithms and all that is covered in fourth, fifth, and sixth grade math. I also have taught math in the primary grades. I have had great success with all of my tutoring students catching on quickly with the methods I use.

Grammar can be a subject many students do not like because they do not understand it.
I can help elementary students develop proper usage and emphasize how it helps them become better writers. I have taught parts of speech and how a student can recognize what part of speech a word is in a sentence. I can teach diagramming and good sentence structure. When a student has a good grasp of correct grammar usage, his writing is more interesting.
After 20 years of teaching 4th grade I am aware of what skills are needed at that grade level and above or below grade level. I am able to teach reading and writing the English language by developing learners’ phonemic awareness—the ability to hear, identify, and manipulate phonemes—in order to teach the correspondence between these sounds and the spelling patterns that represent them.
I am a detail oriented person, with experience teaching and writing hundreds of papers. I can help students use various tools to help them to become successful at proofreading work before submitting it to the teacher. I will show them, depending upon grade level, how to discover if a sentence is complete and has proper punctuation by using tools such a different colored highlighters, checking each part of the sentence, and reading sentences aloud, to find errors and correct them.
I thoroughly enjoy helping students who may struggle in reading because an entire world opens up to them when they understand what they read. I know many proven methods used for 20 years to help over 500 students be motivated, gain success, and improve their comprehension. I am an expert at helping students improve their understanding of what they read. We can apply different tools once I determine the student's strengths and weaknesses, i.e. whether he/she is an auditory or visual learner and what interests they have.
I enjoy helping students understand and implement a workable study system during their home study time. I will show them a system to organize their supplies, work and study time and study location. I demonstrate many methods of effective study habits, efficient use of time, and how to prepare for quizzes and tests. Depending upon the age, I have tools I can show them to organize their study time and habits.
I have many years of experience helping third and fourth graders improve in their reading, thus enjoying it more, thus improving their vocabulary. Making a game, designing colorful flash cards, drawing pictures of the words, using the words in sentences, etc. all help the elementary student learn the meaning of vocabulary words and how to use them both in written sentences and in speaking.
I am qualified to teach writing as I am an excellent communicator, explaining how to introduce a topic, support the thesis with examples, and close with a conclusion. I also show the student how to effectively address what is required according to the teacher's instructions and specific points that need to be covered in that particular genre. I would help each student organize their thoughts, depending upon where they would fit and be most effective in the writing assignment. I also demonstrate how to make their writing more descriptive, using a variety of tools to accomplish this. The length of the material included in each paragraph would be dependent upon the age and grade level of the student. I have taught writing to elementary students for many years and currently am tutoring two elementary students in writing.
