I received my Doctor of Musical Arts (Phd equivalent) at Stanford University (historic performance practice), a Master of Arts in Music, San Francisco State U (composition and theory), and a Bachelor of Music, manga cum laude, San Francisco State U (composition and theory). I am a former music instructor/doctoral fellow at Stanford University, Assistant Professor of Music at UC Santa Cruz, and have given individual musicianship tutoring at East Bay Center for the Performing Arts, Richmond, CA.

My experience in astronomy would be appropriate for grade levels K-12. My personal interest has been primarily the study of historical astronomy and cosmology and their relationship to cultural history, religion, and the arts. The study tools I use are computer or tablet planispheres and mapping, and historic models (e.g, armillary spheres, orreries, sextant, small telescopes or binoculars).

Formerly instructor of music, Stanford, Assistant Professor of Music, UC Santa Cruz. Numerous awards, commissions, and grants for new music/music theater.

As my doctorate is in historic performance practice, I've also done a great deal of coaching in historically appropriate style and ornamentation.

Piano

I studied private piano from ages 6-17, continued score reading and sight-reading through my B of Music degree. At the Masters degree level (SFSU) and Doctoral level (Stanford) all piano requirements were waived after passing piano proficiency exams. I am comfortable teaching piano at the beginning to intermediate levels.

Proofreading

In my capacity as assistant professor of music, I was called upon to proofread and advise both undergrad and grad level students on research papers. I have also worked with high school students in preparing essays for college application. I'm well acquainted with the Chicago Manual of Style. I also have some experience in proof reading French and Italian.

Public Speaking

I hold a Bachelor of Music, magna cum laude in composition & theory from San Francisco State U, a Master of Arts in Music (composition & theory), and a Doctor of Musical Arts, Stanford University (historic performance practice).
One of my duties was teaching voice for actors and public speaking, and audition coaching. My own public speaking experience has been in stage work, university and master class lectures in N America, Australia, and University of Hong Kong (in English), and formal debate.

As a soloist I have sung with San Francisco Opera, Houston Opera, New York City Opera, Meredith Monk Ensemble, Dresden Staatskappelle, Stuttgart Baroque Orchestra, Hamburg Baroque opera. Through operas, solo recitals, concert work I have performed on 5 continents. I have extensive experience in teaching vocal technique and coaching.

Writing

I have written many program notes, musical reviews, research papers (including a doctoral dissertation), grant applications, reports, and administrative documents.
