I am a passionate advocate for sharing the healing benefits of yoga. After a car accident in 1998, I started practicing at the recommendation of a friend. In 2006, I completed my first teacher training, then began study in a holistic yoga tradition based in Chennai, India. I studied in Chennai, as well as completing a 500-hour training with leading yoga therapists in San Francisco at Healing Yoga Foundation. I've worked with people coping with breathing problems, stress, insomnia, anxiety, depression, pain throughout the body, eating disorders, cancer and its treatments, PTSD, substance abuse, hypertension, migraine, and homelessness. I also create practices for people interested in meditation, Vedic chanting, beginning yoga, and general well-being. Currently, I work for several East Bay yoga studios, Kaiser Permanente, and an integrative health center in Oakland. Usually in the first session, we'll talk about how you feel and what you'd like to get out of a yoga practice. I'll ask you questions about your general health, and we'll put together a sequence of yoga tools for the time you have. "Tools" can be yoga postures which I adapt for you, but also gentle breathing techniques and visualization. Then you'll have a practice which you can do every day, and in follow-ups we can address your questions and how things may be changing for you.
And I also teach English as a Second Language! I completed my certification in 2004 in Prague, Czech Republic, and taught there for 3 years before moving on to Berlin, Germany, and then San Francisco. I've worked with students of all ages and interests: working professionals in diverse fields, graduate and college students, and school-age learners. I've helped people with test preparation, interviewing, presenting, job skills of all kinds, writing development, pronunciation and accent reduction, and basic functions for living in an English-speaking country. I have nearly 10 years of experience working with very diverse cultures. My intention is to help you define and reach your goals, and have fun along the way! Please note that my hourly rates for private yoga and ESL are different.
