I am excited to offer my tutoring services for your struggling elementary school student. I am a fully credentialed classroom teacher with a master's degree from UC Berkeley in education. I have worked with K-12 students for the past 6 years in the classroom and as an environmental science instructor for the East Bay Academy for Young Scientists. I have worked exclusively with English Language Learners and have moved my students on the whole 2 reading levels higher, with many of my students advancing even further. I specialize in phonics and spelling instruction as well as vocabulary development, context clues, reading comprehension, summarizing and analytical skills. I am also trained in concept-based math instruction that assists students in moving beyond rote comprehension to a thorough understanding of math. My students last year came in with 1st grade math skills and left the classroom able to do 5th grade level math work. I have attended Bay Area Writing Project workshops and love teaching effective writing. I am highly skilled at developing lessons that integrate students' interests, including art, science, and popular culture to engage and advanced understanding.
