My name is Amelia and I am a recent graduate with honors from Grinnell College, one of the top-rated liberal arts colleges in the country. I majored in Sociology and Environmental Studies, but also studied Economics, Education, and History. I love working with kids of all ages, and have much experience doing so. While in college, I worked as a nanny and tutored elementary school kids weekly at the Grinnell Public Library. I spent this past summer working at a residential summer camp in upstate New York, where I led a group of 12 girls ages 10-11.
Though I prefer working with kids, I also have experience tutoring adults. I worked as a T.A. for a 200-level Economics class my sophomore year of college, and my senior year I tutored adults in GED test prep at a women's correctional facility.
I am patient, highly-motivated, responsible, and good with kids. I received many accolades on my writing in college, and would love to teach others the art of organized, concise writing in any subject. I believe the most effective approach to tutoring is to work alongside each student individually to define their set-backs and develop a personalized plan for improvement. I find when students have agency in their studies, they are more interested in the work, which leads to successful tutoring!
I look forward to meeting and working with your student to help him or her become an eloquent writer and a social-studies master!
