My name is Sam and I am a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer with a degree in Anthropology and Biological Sciences. I will be applying to medical school within the next year or two.

Spanish: After studying Spanish in college, I lived and worked in rural Panama for two years, Where I achieved near fluency. I also speak Spanish on a daily basis in my downtown Oakland office. While it is helpful to expose yourself to native speakers, for a student studying Spanish in school it is very useful to have a tutor who has had the experience of learn Spanish in a classroom environment.

Anthropology: In college I majored in Anthropology and Biological Sciences. I was president of the Undergraduate Student Anthropology Association, and wrote an award-winning honors thesis on anthropological perspectives on epilepsy research. I am also well versed in Linguistic, Sociocultural, and Biological anthropology. I have fieldwork experience as a Peace Corps volunteer and speak Spanish as well as a South American indigenous language, Embera.

Social studies and writing: In addition to my Anthropology coursework, I have a strong background in history, psychology, and sociology. My strongest skill set is academic writing; while I may have received less-than stellar test scores in math and physics, I've never received anything lower than an A on an essay or research paper, and I would love to help you or your child do the same.

Biology

My minor was in Biological Sciences. I completed coursework in Cellular Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Anatomy/Physiology, and Zoology.

Chemistry

I tutor chemistry for high school students. I completed both semesters of physical chemistry during my undergraduate studies and am now taking Organic Chemistry to complete my medical school requirements.

Spanish

I studied Spanish at the University level, and lived in Panama for over two years where I developed my skills to fluency. I also have experience as a language teacher, having taught English to both children and adults.

Anatomy

In college I passed 2 semesters of Anatomy/Physiology, plus Advanced Human Anatomy, with significant laboratory experience dissecting cadavers. I also had supporting coursework in osteology as an anthropology major.

Anthropology

I have a BA in anthropology. I am familiar with all four fields with expertise in Physical, Sociocultural, and Biological anthropology. I wrote an undergraduate honors thesis, have command of literature review, research, and writing skills, and have 2 years of fieldwork experience in Central America. I am a member of the American Anthropological Association.
