I am a skilled business professional with years of experience in the corporate working environment. My education includes an undergraduate degree in Engineering and a Masters degree in finance. While I do not have a teaching credential I have teaching experience as an adjunct professor instructing graduate-level students at a local university. I also have 13 years of experience as a Junior Achievement Economics Counselor working with high school students.
My teaching philosophy is that I succeed by making my students successful. I believe that a viable instruction program requires a good working relationship between the student and teacher that takes advantage of the student's desire to learn, and the teacher's skill in understanding the student's needs, capabilities an aspirations. This relationship is based on mutual trust and confidence that both teacher and student are aligned on the learning goals and the performance requirements and effort investment needed to meet those goals.
My tutoring method is to develop an understanding the student's objectives, to assess their current knowledge of the subject area and to cooperatively prepare a unique learning plan that allows the student to progress from where they are to where they would like to be. This approach allows the learning process to be flexible and tailored to the student's learning style. It then becomes a matter of equipping the student with the knowledge and tools to progress in the subject area. Once the objectives are clear for the student, the task is one of continually evaluating the student's progress toward agreed upon objectives and ensuring that the student is comfortable with the pace of learning. I also work with students to develop milestones that enable them to understnd and measure their progress toward their goals rather than waiting until late in the process for evaluations.
My specific areas of expertise include Accounting and Finance, and the Microsoft Office Suite of products including Excel, Word, and Powerpoint. I am also skilled in other business skills related areas.
