I'm a full-time commercial and event photographer with experience in photojournalism and a knack of working with photography students of all ages and skill levels to hone and develop their skills. My clients include MSN, Levi's, and Buick. I've taught photography to students with a wide range of ages and skill levels, including my six year old daughter.
It's relatively easy to get a tutor that teaches photography these days, but the advantage of working with me is that I can speak to pursuing different careers in the field, and I can help students avoid the various pitfalls that a beginning photographer faces--most, if not all, of which I've faced myself.
In terms of the practice of photography, I would start by teaching the basics of working with a digital camera: aperture, shutter speeds, film speeds---the building blocks of making great images. From there learning how to manipulate light is key. We'll shoot with natural light, on-camera flashes, and even portable studio equipment that I'll bring along.
