With over 25 years teaching music lessons, 9 books written for musicians, countless performances and recording sessions, and 12 years on the music faculty at San Francisco State University, I can offer you the most efficient path to achieve your musical goals. My lessons go beyond teaching you how to play your instrument. I give you the steps needed to learn and practice in the most effective ways so you are making the best use of your time in between lessons - the crucial days of the week when you are on your own and when the real learning happens.

For all instruments, I will coach you on how to master the process of learning your instrument and how to prepare for any performance, audition, or rehearsal. You'll learn to make the best use of your practice time, which will ultimately save you hundreds of hours and hundreds of dollars.

You can also take bass guitar lessons with me. Learn technique, music theory for bass players, sightreading, famous bass lines, soloing techniques, and how to create your own bass lines - in any style. Bass lessons are for 4-string and 5-string fretted and fretless bass. I am the author of the Essential Sightreading Studies for Electric Bass 3-volume series of books and will give you all the tips, tricks, and strategies used by professional bass players for reading charts and fake books.

My best-selling Musician's Practice Planner notebooks are designed to help music students organize their practice time and clearly outline their goals. The Ten Minute Virtuoso series of books are my latest books. These books are designed to help you quickly and efficiently master your instrument and are based on the latest research into the learning process. All of my students learn these strategies in my coachings and lessons.

My teaching style is personalized to your needs, unique in its approach, and effective for anyone. Lessons are available in person at my teaching studio in Oakland or via Skype from anywhere in the world. With Skype lessons, no one spends any time stuck in traffic - or even packing up their instrument and materials to leave the house.
