First and foremost, I am passionate about teaching because I am passionate about learning as a life-long project. I believe in seeking new insight and understanding in all pursuits, and am convinced that anyone can learn anything they want to.

As the daughter of a college professor and internationally recognized educator, I've come to appreciate that the task of a teacher is not so much to impart new knowledge as to inspire students to seek out new knowledge for themselves. As a result, I've come to value personal communication in education beyond all else. While I do appreciate the learning-enhancing possibilities of group dynamics between students, and do offer group lessons for groups of up to four, I personally prefer the ability as a tutor to give full and exclusive attention to each student.

As for myself, I'm a Danish immigrant, married to an American citizen, and have recently moved back to California after a couple of years in Arlington, VA. I've got a B.Sc. in Biology, and a M.Sc. in Plant Science, as well as 8+ years of experience teaching and tutoring all ages (from kindergarten to college level), both in class room settings, small study groups and individual lessons. I specialize in one-on-one tutoring in undergraduate, AP, and Honor's level biology, technical and academic writing for the natural sciences, and sewing / fashion design and production.

I generally try to structure my lessons around the specific requirements of my students, and always make an effort to understand exactly where someone is coming from; my goal is always to help my students excel by engaging as positively and actively as possible in their classes, and while I will refer extensively to any teaching materials they are already being exposed to, I do not hesitate to supplement if I deem it necessary. I strongly believe that curiosity is the primary driver in any positive learning process, and will work with my students to find reliable sources of information and real-world implications that are relevant to subject matter at hand.

If you are looking for someone to take the time to listen to you, and tailor lessons specifically to your needs, please don't hesitate to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you!
