Elisa speaks five languages and has a Ph.D. in History from Brown University. She has worked and studied in three different continents. She taught or served as teaching assistant for history classes at community college and Brown University. Elisa also spent a year teaching high school students with learning differences in Marin County. She has been tutoring students with disabilities, helping prepare high schoolers for the SAT, and tutoring immigrants in ESL for more than four total years.

Elisa feels strongly that good teaching requires responsiveness to individual student needs. An expert in history, she is also an excellent writing tutor, handy at helping with college essays, and enjoys teaching algebra and analytical skills.

Study Skills

I learned formal study skills as a graduate student, taking a course from a business coach and getting certified to teach. Since then I have tutored a number of high school and college students in study skills. I can help students organize their homework, studying and test preparation, showing them how to break down large goals into smaller tasks and schedule work on their daily, weekly, and monthly calendars.

Special Needs

I taught high school for students with special needs for a year in Marin County, learning a great deal from the head teacher and various specialists and doing extra reading to grow my skills. I have also tutored students with special needs for 2+ years.

Hebrew

I began studying Hebrew in elementary school and eventually studied for more than one year in Israel. I can tutor beginning Hebrew.

ESL/ESOL

I have tutored ESL to immigrants on a volunteer basis for 3+ years, working with native Spanish, Russian, Japanese and Chinese speakers.

Russian

I studied Russian in university, graduate school, 2 language schools in Russia and while interviewing farm workers in Russia for my doctoral research. I can tutor beginning to intermediate Russian and especially help with reading comprehension and grammar.

College Counseling

I have helped students prepare for the SAT and GRE, advised them about college and graduate school admissions, and helped students brainstorm, organize, write, and edit admissions essays for more than a year.

How do I receive a discount?

Save between 5 and 15% on tutoring by purchasing credit with one of our prepaid discount packages. You can buy one of our standard 5, 10 or 15% packages or customize your own package based on how much tutoring you need. The credit you purchase can be used towards any tutor at any time and does not expire. If you do not use the entire package, we will simply deduct what you did spend on tutoring from your original purchase price and give you a refund. Discount packages start as low as $190.
