Drawing has always been my passion since very early childhood.

Since the 90's to the present, I am a working, community contributing freelance illustrator, graphic designer and exhibiting fine artist.

My tutoring experience started in Bonn, Germany, teaching part- time kindergarten- 4th graders ESL through English nursery rhymes, I sang and played on guitar. Back here in my native California, since 2005, I have taught adults, middle and high school students traditional gestural energy drawing and Japanese manga at Frank Bette Center for the Arts, Alameda, the now closed Children's Art Studio, Alameda and most currently de- mystifying art techniques for kids at Le Petite Matisse, Alameda.

Following the live and give traditions of my Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA and Center for Creative Studies, Detroit, MI instructors, I am here to offer my professional skills, techniques and tips in traditional, vector, raster and fine art.

I am all about hands on instruction. We should have an agreed upon project to ensure you have something visually tangible to be proud of at the conclusion of our work together.

Let's have fun!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Illustrator

I clarify the difference between pixel and pixel independent digital art.

A thorough familiarization of Adobe Illustrator tools is the first emphasis during lessons.

The benefits of using a pen tablet will be explored.

I will encourage students to have a real world project in mind to apply learned Illustrator skills.

Macintosh

I will show you the basics of MAC platform computer operations and how they differ from a PC environment.

I will cover emailing, attaching photos to emails, creating files, bookmarking web sites, how to surf the net, how to organize photos, and how to use iTunes. We will also cover hard drive storage maintenance.

Excellent! — Ken was very responsive and easy to communicate with. He was also very, very patient in explaining details on my Photoshop project. Ken not only explained what to do, but why it should be done that way. I give him my highest recommendation! ...
