Helping a student discover a hidden talent or ability is my biggest thrill in life. The result of such an event is potentially life changing. I have watched these new discoveries increase self-confidence, create new friendships and renew interest in school. I know I can’t facilitate this type of metamorphosis in all of my students. However, I keep this in mind in my approach to working with each and every student. This approach demands an understanding the needs of each student from a holistic perspective. I believe the essence of teaching is not telling; it’s listening.
I have experience and training in administering and evaluating educational assessment. I have written remediation plans for students with a variety of learning disabilities. I have a current experience working with students with emotional disturbance and a variety of concomitant learning disabilities including but not limited to autism, asperbergers syndrome ADD and ADHD. My sessions are structured but enjoyable. They are designed to meet the specific needs and of my students.
I have spent a life-time involved in the lives of children and young adults. I have supported children through my participation in several volunteer programs and activities. I have found that helping children achieve their potential in a more individualized setting is where I receive my greatest reward.
