Hello there! My name is Lisa K. and I am a certified earth science
teacher with the state of California. I have been working with teenagers and high school students for 20 years, in Israel, and here. In Ojai, I worked at the Ojai Valley Youth Foundation on video and media projects, and now I'm a science teacher (and fluent in Hebrew
, in case you want to learn Biology in Hebrew, for example). I am excited about sharing my love of science with you, and learning what turns you on so I can best teach what you need to know.
I have a lot of experience in tutoring and personalized learning, and know how to modify lesson plans to meet your specific interests and learning styles. I have been working for 8 years in Vista Real Charter High School, an independent study, one-on-one personalized learning program in Ventura, Oxnard and Santa Paula. Before that, in Israel and in America, I have been involved in alternative education schools since I knew how to spell the words 'alter native' (I mean, alternative!).
Believe it or not (and as a scientist, I prefer that you don't, until you have sufficient proof!), I really love to study and teach the sciences because of the way it trains the mind to think critically, and brings out into the open the incredible nature of nature, the unity of living things in their environments, in all their diversity and complexity.
Besides teaching, I write plays, hike, garden, and play music
For me, as a tutor, communication is the key to making this work, and I hope you, if you become my student, will feel free to ask/tell me whatever you have in your heart and mind to share as we work together.
