I have twenty years of experience in public finance, municipal bond portfolio management and financial systems. As a independent financial advisor, I have assisted many local governments and governmental agencies in the issuance of their municipal bonds. My undergraduate degree is in economics, and I had nearly enough course work for a second concentration in computer science.
I am available to tutor junior high, high school, college or graduate students in economics, public finance, math, or writing. I am also available to coach high school students applying to college. For the past ten years, I have volunteered as an alumna interviewer for the Harvard College admissions office.
Update 5/8/14: I recently reactivated my profile as a couple of my students have moved on. I prefer to work with exceptional students who need coaching more than intensive tutoring. Last year I worked with a young man who was applying for admission to top schools around the country. His first choice was Harvard and he was accepted as a regular admit. I have also worked recently with another young man who attends a private high school here in Marin County. I have been working with him for more than a year on AP English. In addition to his essays, we also worked on applications to summer internship programs. He just learned that he was admitted to the program at the Buck Institute on Aging.
I am available most of the summer this year for tutoring.
Thanks, Trish G.
I am a graduate of Harvard College (A.B. in economics) and I attended graduate school in government administration and finance at the University of Pennsylvania.
I have been active for more than ten years in recruitment interviewing for the Admissions Office at Harvard.
I studied public speaking and speech writing as part of my MGA program at the University of Pennsylvania. The course instructor was a speech writer for five U.S. presidents and has authored several books on the subject including "Podium Humor" and "Churchill: Speaker of the Century." When I took his course, he told me that if "I didn't make it in public finance," I should consider a career as a speech writer. And he signed my book, "To [Pat], the speaker of my class."
I have a good deal of experience in working with students on their study skills and have worked with students from grade school through college. I've used a number of different methods of study skills including: mnemonics, Latin and Greek roots for vocabulary, flash cards (including online versions), PQRST technique for comprehension and critical thinking, and test-taking skills and strategies.
We appreciate greatly Patricia G.'s helping our son get into Harvard — I was so lucky that I found the great tutor Patricia G.'s information in WyzAnt. And so lucky that Mrs. Patricia G. was available for guiding our son. Mrs. Patricia G. is a very knowledgeable teacher, and very, very helpful. She gave our son a lot of very important information, let him know about Harvard, even bought books for him. Our son is a little shy. Mrs. Patricia G. spent her very precious ...
