Knowledge of subject matter is just one aspect of being a good tutor. It is also important to connect on a personal level with your students. I love working with elementary school, high school and college students, as well as those of you in business and graduate school, and am interested in what you think and how you think. Finding topics that inspire you as they pertain to the subject matter you are studying is part of the process that unfolds as we work together.
Since thinking is an integral part of writing, I place great emphasis on both, often with profound results. We will go through your assignments step by step, if needed, and begin constructing your first draft together; or, you can bring me what you have done and I can edit it, make suggestions and send you on your way. The choice is yours, depending on your needs.
I have taught U.S. and World History, English and American Literature as well as Creative and Expository Writing, always with an emphasis on effective verbal and written communication. I teach reading and writing courses to elementary school students as well. My students typically begin their semesters hating to write and finish having found their own voices and a newly discovered appreciation for their budding talent. I find nothing quite as exciting as guiding a student through his or her academic pursuits and am qualified to assist students at all grade levels - elementary, junior high/middle school through post-graduate.
If you are a business professional wishing to hone your writing and communication skills, you have come to the right place. Tired of dreading to send an email? Let's work together so that you can effectively and confidently communicate with your colleagues and associates.
In addition to my undergraduate degree in Philosophy from U.C.L.A., I began my college career as an English major. I also have an M.A. in Conscious Evolution, the inter-disciplinary study of how human beings and cultures change and evolve over time. This subject matter profoundly affected my perspective on life and the importance of the individual - a perspective I bring to my work with students in the capacity of tutor, mentor and muse.
