I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with a Minor in Latin American Studies and currently hold a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Spanish. My years of teaching experience have been held in inner city schools located in the communities of Bell and Huntington Park, where I have worked with students of diverse academic and socioeconomic backgrounds. I have taught all levels of Spanish, ranging from non-native speakers to Advance Placement. I currently work for the Torrance Unified School District.
My expertise in teaching includes functions such as lesson planning, curriculum development, student assessment, and differentiated teaching in order to target students with diverse needs. Although instructional scaffolding is a vital part of the learning process, I also encourage students to think independently, to be analytical, and to express their views on any given matter. I believe part of their growth as individuals involves their ability to be critical thinkers that they may learn to make decisions for themselves out of a state of conscious awareness rather than merely out of preconceived notions.
Crucial to a student’s academic success is the collaboration between teachers and parents. On a professional level, I am a team player who strongly believes in working in conjunction with other adults who play an important role in a student’s life in order to understand her/his needs and provide the student with the best support possible. On a personal level, my own appetite for learning lures me to seek others whom I can learn from. I thrive in the exchange of ideas and finding new ways I can improve and enrich my teaching.
