I have been a tutor in the English Language arts and other related subjects for the past 4 years with an agency and 4 years privately with both college students and students from first grade through 12th grade. I have also worked as a teacher's assistant in the Los Angeles Unified School District. I know what is expected of a college student. I know and have tutored the goals and skills that each grade levels 1 through 12 are required to learn. In addition, I have 6 years of experience with special needs students and with ESL students. I also teach adults skills that improve their chances in the bigger world, including public speaking and writing,among others. I also teach test prep for the SAT, the MCAT and the ACT test

I enjoy tutoring all aspects of English -reading writing, speaking grammar. An example of one of my specialties is teaching organizing, writing, editing and proofreading essays, term papers, and research papers, helping the students improve their work. Writing

I am a published writer in newspapers and magazines. This includes fiction and non-fiction writing. For four years, I have tutored both fiction and non fiction writing to all ages--first grade to post graduate school. This includes the mechanics of writing as well as the aesthetics of writing. My students have given me 5-star ratings.

English

I have four years of experience teaching English to Spanish and Arabic and Thai people. We used exercises for conversation, reading, writing and sentence structure.

I have taught essay writing, research paper writing, grammar, and literature.

Psychology

I have taken a Masters level college Counseling Class at California State University Northridge. I have worked at the Veteran's Administration Hospital as a Therapist. I have been a volunteer in counseling groups in Los Angeles County for 15 years. I have read many books on the subject of mental illnesses and counseling.

SAT Writing

I have experience with the SAT writing portion of the exam. This includes the essay writing,from planning and outlining to writing, and reviewing. It also includes the multiple choice verbal part of the exam, which is considered part of the writing skills testing.

My students skills greatly improved. I have been tutoring writing and English for four years.

ACT English

I have tutored students in preparing for the English portion of the ACT exam during the past year. This included essay writing where I instructed in the type and structure the ACT examiners are looking for. I received 5-star ratings from the students' parent.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have helped students k-6 for a total of 7 years in various settings. For four years I was a teacher's assistant in the Los Angeles Unified School District; I worked one on one with students of all grades helping them with their assignments in all subject areas and special projects. I have been a tutor for 3 years with agencies, helping k-6 students with multiple subjects. I enjoy working with children of all ages.

Theatre

I have tutored acting since I was very young and directed as well as wrote plays. I have participated in theatre arts activities all the way through high school and college and have taken classes in acting, directing, and stage management. I have produced a number of plays, including musicals and dramas and comedies. I have directed both children and adults.

Special Needs

I have worked with special needs students for 7 years including 4 years with Los Angeles Unified School District and through a private tutoring agency. Most showed much improvement in their skill levels, self confidence and ability to focus. Special needs students require extra patience and the division of subjects into smaller, digestible chunks, with more detailed explanations. I look forward to assisting these special students.

I have experience with Judaism. I have studied the "Torah" the Jewish bible and Judaisms related customs, holidays and religious practices, for many years now in a synagogue Hebrew school setting, at specialized summer camps, at seminars, in university classes, and on Saturdays at synagogue. I have worked as a religious school teacher and also as a speaker on Jewish subjects. I feel I am well versed and can present the information well.

Hebrew

I can teach the aleph bet (alphabet, basic reading and conversation, some grammar, and some vocabulary, I can also tutor in pronunciation and in some prayers. I had 2 semesters of Hebrew in college plus 3 years of Hebrew in an after school program as a child. I've taught Hebrew in several after-school programs. Some of my family speaks Hebrew, and I have participated in some conversations with them. I have navigated Isreal using Hebrew.

Bible Studies

I have studied the "old testament" from the Jewish perspective for many years now in a synagogue Hebrew school setting, at specialized summer camps, at seminars, in university classes, and on Saturdays at synagogue. I feel I am well versed and can present various points of view.

MCAT

I have experience tutoring for the verbal portion of the MCAT. I have raised student MCAT verbal scores 18% in a matter of one hour of tutoring, between initial pretest and post test, all administered by me, using practice exams. I have assisted high school seniors in writing their college application essays and have been able to help students explore response possibilities,develop ideas and supporting details, write, proofread and edit. ADD/ADHD

I have worked in 2 classrooms containing ADD and ADHD students at Los Angeles Unified school district for 4 years. I learned much about these students. Speech

As a therapist, I was successful in getting three children to speak, who didn't speak before. With adults, I have also had success. I worked with a schizophrenic adult whose speech was rather mixed up and not making sense, between medication changes and my work with him, he learned to speak simple, complete sentences that made sense. I feel my successes with these people demonstrate my adeptness at tutoring speech.
