I am an American Sign Language teacher and have been teaching ASL at College of the Canyons, Glendale Community College, Pasadena City College, and John Burroughs High School. I use the 1988 "Signing Naturally" and 2008 "Signing Naturally" textbooks and have taught ASL 101, ASL 102, Fingerspelling, and Creative Sign Language. I trained with Deaf West Theatre and National Theatre of the Deaf, and have learned creative ways to use ASL.

I also work on the ASL master team for "Switched at Birth" and develop tailor-made private classes to teach to writers, actors, and crew working in television and film. Previously, I worked as a sign language consultant for professional theatre interpreters working at Portland Center Stage and Tygres Heart Shakespeare Company in Portland, Oregon.

I have more than 5 years of academic teaching experience and have worked with students as young as 7 years old and up to people in their 60s, and can easily tailor tutoring sessions to best fit the client--making it more fun & creative or more academic-oriented, depending on the learning goals/preferences of the client.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Hard Of Hearing

I am a native signer and fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). I also have proficiency in Signed Exact English (SEE) and Pidgin Signed English (PSE).

I taught grammar to Deaf adults in an adult education program at the Center for Communicative Development for 3 years. Furthermore, I worked as a professional tutor at Glendale Community College, tutoring Deaf students in subjects including: English, Reading, Writing, Health, Graphic Design, Math.

All of these classes and tutoring sessions were conducted using ASL.

I can use ASL fluently to tutor in any subject: Math, Science, Health, Art, English, Reading, Writing, etc.

I have a Masters degree in Screenwriting (from England) and a Bachelors degree in Exercise Science (with an emphasis in Sports Medicine); therefore, I have extensive backgrounds in both Writing and Science.

Sign Language

I have taught 2-3 ASL classes per semester for the past 4 years as well as intensive summer courses (72 hours within 5-6 weeks), and have logged more than 2,000 hours of teaching experience.

I teach ASL 101, 102, Fingerspelling, and Creative Sign Language and use "Signing Naturally" (1988 and 2008 editions).

I have taught ASL at College of the Canyons, Glendale Community College, Pasadena City College, John Burroughs High School, Upward Bound, and Northwest Academy.
