Elementary Students - College Freshmen
are fun languages to learn once you know how to handle them. As an English major and Spanish Language Journalism
minor, I have been studying both for quite some time and love to share my viewpoints on how to better understand these with students depending on their learning styles.
I believe in teaching, not giving answers. I'm an avid reader and incorporate literature
into different essay
topics or vocabulary
words. The same can be said about my Spanish experience.
I completed my Master's in Social Work at the University of Southern California (USC). I also received my Bachelor's degree from California State University, Northridge (CSUN), in English with a minor in Spanish Language Journalism.
ENGLISH EXPERIENCE: I have worked as a teacher for three years. I have taught the Language Arts
portion of the CAHSEE, as well as the Reading
portions for the SAT
. I've edited work for my university newspaper, a semester literary magazine, and countless student essays throughout my undergraduate career. I worked with Canyon News in the editing
, writing and reporting departments and this has also strengthened my writing skills and proofreading
abilities. If the student is interested in Journalism or needs help writing reports or essays in any other school subjects, including Geography
or Life Skills, I can also help out.
SPANISH EXPERIENCE: I am a native Spanish speaker and am fluent in both speaking and writing the language. Through my Spanish Journalism Minor I have taken several courses not only in Spanish grammar
but also in Spanish literature. I can assist with any tense, vocabulary, or conjugation questions the student may have, among other topics. As a social work therapist at a high school and elementary school, I am also responsible for translating for students, families and parents, and have been trained to hold bilingual workshops. SAT PREP
EXPERIENCE: I worked as an SAT Prep instructor through the Upward Bound Program at Cal
State LA. In this position I worked with high school sophomores, juniors and seniors to help prepare them for the SAT. I helped them to dissect the math
, reading and writing portions of the exam and explained both tactics that will stick with them after they master the SAT, such as writing skills for future papers and admissions essays, as well as tips and tricks specific to SAT prep, such as eliminating certain responses.
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE: I've worked with students ranging from Kindergarten
to College Students and have experience working with a diverse population of students. My Master's degree helped me provide therapy for students and families and instilled in me a passion to work with students as well as an ability to have patience and build rapport with them. I am familiar with a holistic approach to working with students and adapt to the student's learning style, be it kinesthetic, auditory, or visual.
I've taken countless time management
, study skill, career and test preparedness courses in college and will be able to share these with your students. I have also assisted many junior and senior high school students with college applications and enjoy speaking with students about the different options available after high school.
Repetition is key and a knowledge of the fundamentals is important so if the student has a weakness in a certain area I have no problem helping them review the material and learn different ways of handling and retaining the material. I'm patient, empathetic, and passionate about teaching.
