Hello, Students!

My name is Kindra, and I am new to WyzAnt!

I graduated from St. Mary's College, in Moraga, CA with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and a Minor in Music. During my college years at St. Mary's, I became a tutor, and helped many students with their coursework and test preparation. I then went on to run St. Mary's Tutorial Center with the Dean of Students and Tutorial Director. I did this for the remainder of my college education.

Since graduating, I have worked in the Entertainment Industry for over 20 years. I have helped develop two production/distribution companies; one I co-founded in Canoga Park, CA, called Cinema Libre Studio that produces and distributes features and documentaries. One of my roles at Cinema Libre, besides Operations, has been to read scripts and pick out those I felt would make a great acquisition to our company. I have also produced and directed one feature and have written, produced and directed one documentary project. Therefore, I have many years' experience in subjects such as reading, proofreading, grammar, writing, writing structure, creative writing, composing, and songwriting, as well as operational subjects, including, for example, Quickbooks, tax preparation, cash-flow allotment, public speaking, etc. I also speak Spanish, which has helped me immensely in every day living and business.

Now that I have a 7 year-old, I have found myself back in the classroom, this time with kids! There is nothing more rewarding than helping a student to succeed and then watching their progress and how it affects them emotionally, especially with small children and the demands that are being placed on them educationally. They are more confident and positive in how they view challenges, and that is a wonderful thing!

Grammar

Correct grammar is so important in every day life and business. Proper grammar is essential for even the most simple tasks, such as writing a letter, or a job interview.

I can help you improve your grammar by working with you to develop proper sentence structure and usage, both verbally and in written form.

Being self-employed and also having written professionally, I have much experience in properly articulating the English language.

Spanish

I have tutored primarily beginning and intermediate Spanish for many years, starting back in college. Therefore, I am very familiar with the language, as I speak it myself and have traveled to South America three times!

We will work on improving the basic skills necessary understand Spanish, and from there, we will build up and strengthen all additional skills as you become more familiar with the Spanish language.

Writing

As a professional writer, strong knowledge of the English language and sentence structure is key! Therefore, I will use my abilities and experience to help you improve in the written language, and build on and strengthen your own skills.

As you improve, you will feel more confident and able to better understand this subject as the year progresses.

English

ESL/ESOL

English as a second language can be quite challenging, as there are many exceptions in terms of grammar use and structure.

I will assist you in improving your skills in both verbal and written use of the language. We can also use memorization with analogies as a tool. Whatever serves you best and will help you retain vocabulary and the spelling of words.

I believe that repetition and practice, practice and more practice are the keys to learning a new language.

Proofreading

As a proofreader, I will be that extra pair of eyes, going over your documents, papers or homework, with a fine tooth comb; making sure that punctuation isn't missing, words are spelled correctly, and that your ideas come across clearly and effectively!

SAT Reading

I can help you prepare for your SAT exam! We will study sample questions, during which I will help you improve your reading comprehension and writing skills. Time is always of the essence when taking these exams, so we will work on helping you with the basic understanding of what is being asked of you and how to answer effectively and efficiently.

TOEFL

The TOFEL exam can be very challenging to one learning English as a second language. I can help you prepare for your exam. We will practice your reading, writing, comprehension skills, as well as your ability to write grammatically correct sentences. I want you to succeed and feel confident in being able to pass your TOEFL exam!

ACT English

It can be so stressful preparing for an ACT test. I know, I've been there. I will help you prepare for your exam by focussing on those issues which concern you most, and work with you to find ways to strengthen your skills so that you feel more confident about your abilities.

Composition (Music)

As your tutor in music composition, I will help you add the finishing touches to a piece, or help you develop a melody and or lyrics you have in your head, but can't quite articulate...then we will expand from there!

I have had much experience in music composition, and have recorded both my own music, as well as music for hire. I also have found that sometimes, collaboration is just the key ingredient one needs to help a musical piece come together and flow.

Elementary (K-6th)

My expertise in K-6th grade comes from having assisted in school classrooms, beginning with kindergarten, helping kids individually with reading, writing, and math.
