I believe that anyone can learn once they establish a studying routine that they are comfortable with. With discipline and the correct preparation, any subject can be mastered. Everyone learns differently, and so after an initial meeting of getting to know each other, it's important for me to find the methods that work best for the student and establish a pattern that the student can then use to approach his or her problem subject. Throughout my previous tutoring experiences, I've found repetition to be by far the most effective method to cement concepts into the long term memory. Oral and written drilling will give my students the confidence they need to not simply pass the tests, but to be able to take away from the class new perspectives and life skills that they didn't understand before. (Which, of course, is the central idea of education to begin with.)
I earned a BA in Theater and a BFA in Creative Writing at Morehead State University, where I graduated with both majors in just four years while maintaining a 3.8. While this is my first tutoring service, I've worked privately with students in the Kentucky/West Virginia region before moving out here last October. These students ranged from 1st graders struggling to learn to read to high school seniors wrestling with the writings of Hemingway and Faulkner. I'll be taking the CBEST certification test very soon to make myself more appealing to prospective students.
I tutor around the Hollywood/East LA area. I live in North Hollywood, but I'll gladly tutor anywhere within a 15 mile radius. If the commute is long, I may ask for a slightly higher rate to compensate for gas. My rates are flexible, and I'm willing to hear offers. If you have to cancel for any reason I only ask that you let me know two hours before the session.
Thank you so much and I look forward to working with you!
