My name is Ashley, and I am an experienced tutor and teacher. I earned my MA in Teaching from the University of Southern California and my Teaching credential for Social Science. I also have experience teaching Art and I am a French speaker.
I have experience working in both a middle school and an IB Diploma high school and I feel strongly that fostering the holistic growth of our children requires open minded, global perspectives and numerous ways to access content and demonstrate knowledge. During my student teaching experiences, I worked at a cross-disciplinary Charter School which was largely project based and employed Sociocultural and Constructivist learning theories as a guide for lesson planning and implementation. I taught Language Arts and Social Studies together in a block schedule. I believe in student centered-lessons and strive to create a safe learning environment based on mutual respect.
Through my student teaching experiences at an International Baccalaureate Diploma school, I developed high performance expectations from both teachers and students. I believe that all students are capable of achieving success in school and I want to help them achieve their academic goals. I have had experience co-teaching IB History of the Americas with my master teacher, where I assisted students with their Internal Assessment essays and taught lessons. Additionally, I worked alone with IB Visual Arts candidates, helping them to develop their portfolios. I was also able to co-teach an AP European History course. Outside of the IB coursework, I taught 10th grade World History and co-taught AP European History.
I have experience tutoring both adults and children in various subjects. I have experience tutoring the following subjects: French, English, writing, History, Art History, and Art. I have working experience in journalism as a freelance reporter for two magazines. I also have web and graphic design experience and feel comfortable tutoring students interested in these subjects. I love to learn and I love to help others develop a love of learning as well.
