Hello, my name is Rhona, and I originally started my American K-12 and Adult Multi-Subject Tutoring career as a wonderful part-time vocation back in 2002, when I first got in California my lifetime CBEST Certification as a K-12 Substitute Teacher, alongside my comprehensive certified training as a volunteer Adult Literacy Tutor with the Pasadena Public Library System and as a Mental Health Paraprofessional (geared towards Social Work Case Management) trained by Pacific Clinics (one of America's leading behavioral health providers) and Pasadena City College (one of North America's top 3 community colleges that serves as a feeder school to top-notch universities such as its neighboring institution, the California Institute of Technology/CalTech).
Prior to that, I was a Grades 1-3 Sunday School teacher for the children of the multi-cultural congregation of Union Church of Manila (Philippines), and I also spent a semester as an Experiment in International Living cultural exchange program High School teacher in Asian Studies in Cork and Dublin at the Republic of Ireland in 1999.
My undergraduate degree is from one of Asia's leading Jesuit institutions (Ateneo de Manila University, akin to Georgetown, Loyola Marymount, Fordham, Marquette, etc.) is in Bachelor of Arts in Development Studies, a Sociology and Economics hybrid that trains professionals for the non-profit sector, and I also sat in as a guest student in an summer-long Asian American Studies Seminar at the University of California in Los Angeles/UCLA in 2001.
After earning my CBEST Certification, I trained and worked directly with K-12 multi-subject teaching professionals (alumni of noteworthy colleges and universities such as Azusa Pacific University and California State University of Northridge) in their respective private tutoring services in Covina and North Hollywood.
In Nevada, I was also one of The Uceda Institute's first GED/SAT Test Prep Teachers for their regular weeknight classes geared towards mostly late life and immigrant learners.
Aside from being an on-call tutor, my primary vocation is in the world of Marketing and Media Management, steadily working as a TV Series Producer for content seen in a diverse range of educational and entertainment networks such as Ion Media Networks (formerly PaxTV), Oxygen, American Life Network, DirecTV, Dish, ABC, CNBC, and the like; Social Media Series Producer on Facebook, YouTube, UStream; and also a Radio Series Producer for syndicated programs heard on independent AM and FM stations. I also help small-to-medium-sized businesses launch their new brands of products and services in niche chains such as Whole Foods, Fry's Electronics, and more.
All of my Knowledge Management or Intellectual Property-driven professional work over the years have helped many children and adults appreciate the various academic subject fundamentals' applicability and relevance in real life, thus enabling them to successfully tackle a wide variety of major standardized testing, including: ISEE, GED, CBEST, ASVAB, LSAT, GRE, GMAT, and the like.
I view Tutoring not just as a paying job, but also as a highly interactive vocation for both the Tutor and the Student to learn from each other and more about themselves.
I know that there are generally three/3 ways students of any age learn: By Sight (ex. Reading), By Sound (ex. Listening), and by Act (ex. demonstration).
Helping adults with standardized testing that can help them acquire further professional education, licensing and credentials is something I can deeply empathize with, having recently passed for myself with flying colors (92 out of the perfect score of 100) the rigid US Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery/ASVAB test to successfully qualify in the higher-paying and critically-skilled Water Purification Unit of the US Army National Guard.
Even in the worlds of Business, Media, and the Military, I have always patiently customized the way I teach and communicate with how my clients and students can best absorb and process information.
Now that my independent Marketing/Broadcast Media/Mentoring consultancy practice will base me in Los Angeles majority of the time, while on occasion I may be called on out of state field work such as in my nearby home state of Nevada, I look forward to continuing my tutoring here with a wide range of potential clients.
