My name is Dori and I have worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District for seven years now. I began as a Supervision Aide at Knollwood Elementary in Granada Hills, CA and soon became a Special Education Assistant. At Knollwood, I worked with all grades from K-5. I was also the Parliamentarian on the PTA Board and taught Drill Team and Dance there as well. I have worked at Robert Frost Middle School for the past four years and I currently assist teachers with IEP (Individualized Education Program) meetings and needs, paperwork, editing, scheduling, and coordination.
I have assisted both mainstream and special needs children one on one, as well as helping teachers and students in a General Education classroom setting. I attended Jacksonville State University in Alabama, Santa Monica College, and Pierce College where I am two classes away from my Associate's Degree. My next step is CSUN where I will gain a degree in Early Childhood Education. On a more personal note, I am a singer and have been since I could talk. I sing in an '80s band, at weddings, and other public functions. Last year, I was asked to sing the National Anthem for my son's middle school culmination! I am a member of Shepherd of the Hills Church in Porter Ranch and if I had to name one weakness, it would be CHEESEBURGERS! I have a heart for children and learning. It is also my belief that every child is different.
Every child is an individual with specialized needs. Not all children "fit" the "system." It is my desire to recognize those differences, accept them, and accommodate as needed.
