My name is Meridee and I have taught in Orange County in several districts between trips on our sailboat during the years; that include the Channel Islands and also as far south as Acapulco.I love seeing children succeed in their endeavors, and during one trip, home schooled my daughter through 7th grade.

I have a CLAD certificate that certifies I am able to communicate learning skills to second language learners. In the past I have won awards for my writing and been published in several newspapers and a couple of magazines. I have also entered art work in several shows and am actively engaged in that and writing songs, playing guitar.

I have a Fine Arts Degree plus certification through UCI and the Calif. Dept. of Education to teach Art at the secondary level, and multiple subjects in the K - 8th grade realm. I have taught in a special needs classroom, grades 6 - 8, in the Newport Mesa School District. I have most recently taught Art for an extended period at Ensign Jr. High and also in Huntington Beach City School Dist., combo classes K/1st grade. I have worked at the Jr. High level with students who are high achievers and those who were not gifted, with happy results. I have taught art, science, photography and supervised ASB activities at the jr. high level.

I retired in 2006 to do some serious sailing with my husband, but now am back and ready to reconnect with education.

Students that work with me will end up with improved skills in the subject area we target, plus we will stress a life long love of learning and make sure there is a good comfort level for all involved. I find this gives the best results. I sometimes start a session with stretches to relax and allow the student to then proceed to focus on the subject area. I am happy to contact and communicate with a student's regular teacher, or to implement home schooling subjects. Many students need just a little help, others need an attitude overhaul. I can say that I have been successful in building confidence levels and positive attitudes towards learning in my students. Life is wonderful and a positive attitude is the key to success.

Writing

I have been a writing instructor in the public schools, and have been published in a few periodicals, I am a free lance photojournalist on the side. I truly enjoy writing!

English

I have taught English as a second language, tutored adults and high school students in grammar and composition of assignments and written several short stories. I am certificated by the State of CA to teach all subjects K-8, with a special certification in working with second language learners. I enjoy writing, and enjoy helping my students clarify their thoughts so that their paperwork is crisp and to the point.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am retired from teaching and still hold valid teaching credentials that include ESL plus K-8th grades. I taught in a special reading program for two years in Newport Mesa in which we saw an average of over one year's growth in ability with each student we worked with, and more. I have a year's experience teaching in a Special Ed. classroom grades 6 - 8. I have also worked with kindergarteners in a special bilingual setting in San Clemente for a year.

Phonics

I have taught reading over the course of many years in many grade levels with many approaches to phonics utilized in this area. Basically I believe in practice and visual plus often tactile tools to help the student understand what phonics is all about and to help them master the ins and outs of letters and sounds.

ESL/ESOL

I have been trained as an English as a second language teacher and have the credential issued by the State of Ca. to prove it! My additional credentials include K to 8th grade multiple subject and Secondary Art, through the teacher training program at UC Irvine.

Sewing

I have been sewing all of my life since I took courses in Jr. High. I taught sewing at a Jr. High school in HBCSD several years ago for one semester. Besides clothing I have taught upholstering techniques and fun projects like hand painted pillows, etc.

Drawing

I majored in Fine Arts at UC Irvine and obtained my teaching credential there to teach secondary art. I also have multiple subject K-8 credential plus many hours of classroom experience, I am now retired.

Painting

I paint for a hobby plus take additional classes to keep "fresh". I have taught art in the public school sector and have Fine Arts degree from UC Irvine plus teaching credential still valid through California for secondary art. I am currently painting on a commission basis for several musician's personal collections

Cooking

I am a well qualified cook and have taught cooking at the Jr. High level.

ADD/ADHD

ADD/ADHD is a personal subject area I am interested in having a husband and son so afflicted. When properly motivated and engaged persons with this disorder can be helped with concentration and organization skills to better help them succeed in life.
