Patient and Knowledgeable English and ESL Tutor

Hello, thank you for looking at my page. I have a BA in Linguistics. I have studied different languages and am familiar with pitfalls and other difficulties. I have furthered my studies with a TESOL Certification from Oxford Seminars. English can be a difficult language to learn. There are different methods and sometimes the common ones are not suitable for certain individuals.

One of the pitfalls in English is that some word pronunciations do not match the spelling; for optimal learning a student should seek the most suitable method and practice regularly. I can help with reading and pronunciation. I am comfortable tutoring in total immersion. However it must be understood that this is time consuming and may not be the the preferable option. Someone with English proficiency will be required to explain the needs and goals and to handle the business arrangements with WyzAnt Tutoring.

I would be willing to tutor during the early mornings, evenings, and weekends with prior arrangements.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary can be problematic pertaining to synonyms, idioms,and appropriate word choices pertaining to the person you are speaking to.

There are many words with various synonyms used by different individuals. I can help with vocabulary comprehension, study methods,and appropriate use in different situations.

Reading

Reading comprehension is related to vocabulary and can include the use of idioms or phrases that may seem illogical.

Reading also includes how sentences and paragraphs can lead to the main idea. This can be problematic if missed.

English

English can be a difficult language to learn. There are several different learning and teaching methods. English as a second language should be taught differently from the typical English teaching methods in the educational system. It is best to find the appropriate method for an individual.

I am a native English speaker. I have studied other languages and achieved an ESL/TESOL certification. I can help with the different learning and teaching methods.

Proofreading

Proofreading is very important. There are many issues to be considered. You place a limited amount of trust in your computer for error correction. Some questions to be asked when proofreading are:

Is there an errant use of homophones?
Could a phrase be better stated?
Is the right word being used?
What is the purpose of the document?
Who is the intended reader?

There are many other questions/issues to be considered when proofreading.

I have achieved an ESL/TESOL certification from Oxford Seminars. I have tutored speakers of several different languages in English. Tutoring included reading, writing, and pronunciation. Tutoring needs vary from different students. I can help with addressing an individual's needs.
