Hello!
My name is Thuy N. and I am a graduate from the University of California Berkeley. My primary areas of focus are in the fields of writing, Elementary studies, and mathematics. I have over 7 years of tutoring experience stemming from pre-kindergarten to the 12th grade. In the past, I have worked as a volunteer preschool teacher, a volunteer tutor in the Oakland Unified School District, a private bilingual tutor for a Vietnamese family, a summer counselor specializing in preparing high school students for the SAT and ACT examination, and a mathematics tutor for a local education center in the city of Torrance among other education related jobs. In addition, I have helped various high school seniors prepare for college by editing personal statements and apply for scholarships. As you can see, I have had a solid foundation in tutoring and mentoring youth.
I believe tutoring is more than just teaching the fundamentals necessary for the students to pass the class. From my lessons from Cal especially from within the education department, learning comes in many different forms. My method of tutoring reflects enhancing the student's literacy of the subject material in order to succeed in the class. I truly believe that students can achieve the best if they understand, are enthusiastic, and eager to practice the particular subject matter they wish to improve upon.
A little about myself:
I was born and raised in the Bay Area. I recently moved back from Southern California, where I completed a graduate program this past May. I will be applying to medical school within the next year. I love to rock climb, make arts and crafts, and watch sports. I am an avid traveler; I just hiked Machu Picchu this summer and went to the London Olympics thereafter. I am the type of person to make the most out of every experience and try to enjoy life!
