I am a recently retired professor. I taught in the engineering department of a small campus for 20 years, and enjoy helping students to succeed. In addition, I spent several years helping students to prepare for the GED, so I have worked with a wide variety of students, with different backgrounds, life circumstances and talent.
The subjects I teach can be challenging, and I've consistently seen that the students who seek help outside of class benefit from it. Classroom learning has its limitations, and I enjoy working with students one- on- one, allowing us to work at the individual's pace and to tailor the learning to the student's particular needs.
I enjoy math and science, and try to convey my enthusiasm to students. I know that these subjects can seem intimidating. My goal as a tutor is to try to remove the mystery from the subjects and show their practical uses.
I'd be happy to discus your individual needs. Our goal is your success. Hello,

Very knowledgeable tutor. Helped me throughout my summer session for Statistics and I improved with every test score. He knows all of the concepts thoroughly and explains them step by step. I'd recommend him to anyone.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have studied ordinary differential equations as an undergraduate, and partial differential equations in graduate school in mechanical engineering. In my career as an engineer and the past 20 years as a professor in mechanical engineering, I have used differential equations extensively in subjects such as dynamics, fluid mechanics and heat transfer. In addition to solving them in closed form, I am also experienced in computational solutions.
I received a PhD in mechanical engineering from Stanford University. For the past 20 years, I have been a Professor of mechanical engineering at the California Maritime Academy, a campus of the California State University. I retired in August 2013, but continue to teach part-time there. Prior to becoming a professor, I worked for several years for the U.S. Navy and for Lockheed-Martin.
