Michelle earned her Master’s in Pacific International Affairs, with a career concentration in International Development and a regional specialization in Latin America at the Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies, University of California, San Diego. Prior to entering graduate school, Michelle lived in Bisai, Japan for two years, teaching English and American culture at public junior high schools while engaging in performance dance and theater. Michelle received her undergraduate degree at the University of California, Irvine, with a major in International Studies and a minor in Clinical Psychology. During this time she also attended La Universidad Catolica Pontificia in Santiago, Chile for one semester. Proficient in Spanish, conversational Japanese and Portuguese, Michelle enjoys international travel and leaves the country at least twice a year. As a former member of the renowned public speaking organization, Toastmaster’s International, Michelle has won numerous accolades for competitive public speaking. Her experience as an 11th Grade U.S History and American Literature Teacher has afforded her with content knowledge and her after school office hours have allowed her to support students one on one. With a dual passion for education and dance Michelle embraces an energetic teaching style that truly motivates students to learn.
I taught English to 4, 5 and 6 year olds in Chile for six months while I was attending university in Santiago. I also taught English in Japan through the Japan Exchange Teaching program for two years in public middle schools in addition to giving private English lessons to adults. As a high school teacher I have had the opportunity to teach many students from abroad and assist them in their English language development.
I have experience teaching speech, debate, Socratic seminars, and spoken word poetry. I have engaged in competitive speech competitions and currently have trophies achieved as a member of Toastmaster's International, a world renowned speaking public speaking organization. I have a clear, concise and effective method for developing public speaking abilities.
I have been dancing salsa for over 12 years. In Japan I was on a Salsa Performance team for two years and we performed in the Tokyo Salsa Congress. I have taught workshops at high schools for the past three years and given private lessons to adults. I can provide a YouTube video of my dance skills. My patient yet energetic teaching style has given me the opportunity to share my passion for dance with many people.
