Tutoring for me is about the broad idea of providing students with quality, tailor-made learning opportunities. My interest is largely that of the students and their developmental success as a whole. I feel that I have the ability and the motivation to assist children in discovering the joy of learning and becoming independent, high-achieving individuals.
I have a special place in my heart for “spirited” children. My patience is long and my belief that all children have the ability for success runs deep. As a classroom teacher, I often found that I was able to connect with children that many other teachers found challenging. As a tutor, I enjoy having the flexibility to focus on the needs of each student at a time and give each student the feeling that they are valuable in their own unique way.
Working as a teacher for more than 10 years has provided me with a wealth of knowledge about working with children ages 2 to 12 years. I have extensive training in early literacy. However, I find all of the subjects and learning domains to be fascinating in their own right. I find that I have a particular capacity to connect with elementary school learners. Additionally, I have experience with a wide range of teaching styles and approaches.
The educational course that I have pursued has allowed me a great deal of insight into education, learning theories, and research. I hold several degrees that support my position as an educator:

Additionally, I have a working knowledge and experience with the California public education system. This knowledge allows me to have insight into the world in which our children spend their days, how they learn, and what teachers are expecting.
I am comfortable working with learning and developmentally disabled students. Not only do I have experience with these students in classrooms at several grade levels, but I also have the perspective of a family member of a learning disabled individual. I am continually seeking new information about reaching these students in whatever way is most effective and respectful. I am always aware of the diverse needs and points of view of students and families. I am committed to treating all students with equity and all cultural differences with respect and honor.
At the beginning of each tutoring session, I will discuss your goals for your child and clearly outline how we will spend our time. After the session, I will send you a detailed report that includes the activities in which your child was engaged in, the learning objectives for each activity, and notes describing behaviors observed and progress made.
I am a trained K-6 teacher that is fully and legally qualified to teach Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade. I have completed the Multiple Subject Teaching Credential Program from San Jose State University and passed all of the State examinations for working in public schools. Additionally, I have been a student teacher & assistant teacher in Kindergarten, 1st, and 3rd grade classrooms. Additionally, I am familiar with the new Common Core Standards.
I have been teaching for over 10 years. During this time, I have had the lucky opportunity to develop a language arts program for a private school in Palo Alto. This program was designed to teach young readers phonics, whole-word, vocabulary, grammar, and writing skills. End of the school year assessments proved that this program was highly effective in assisting students to bring up their literacy skills.
