Chemistry

AP chemistry should be as high-level as a general chemistry course in college. In order to guide students, I have notes and worksheets organized by topic on my website. My AP students solve practice questions from previous exams created by CollegeBoard on each topic. AP chemistry is usually an easier course to approach due to the plethora of information available online and the types of questions on the test administered by CollegeBoard.
The SAT chemistry subject test is easier for some students because of the simple question types and shorter proctored test time. Although it often requires many months of organized preparation in order to obtain a score over 90%, I have had some very successful students achieve this in only six to ten weeks.
Students lose interest in the subject primarily because of a poor understanding of stoichiometry. Once they understand the concepts of a mole and of molarity, most of them are comfortable with solving comprehensive questions in more advanced topics. In order to help students, I teach a fairly simple approach to Lewis dot structures, and utilize model kits to simulate molecular geometry. I also introduce a shortcut to hybridization that many students find to be helpful.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
