Biology is a very visual science. I like to use examples and videos to explain many biology concepts. I find science becomes less abstract when students are able to visualize how things work. Additionally, I like to give examples of how biology works in our daily lives. For example, I might ask a student to tell me what type of foods are high in starch or lipids, if we are talking about biomolecules, or ask them why people often eat carbohydrates before a long run, when we are talking about cellular respiration.
I love biology and want to help others learn about it. I have a Ph.D. and more than eight years experience teaching biology at the college level. My experience with students includes students who learn quickly and those that need a hand understanding some concepts. My approach to teaching and tutoring is to lead students to the answers instead of just giving them the answers. I believe it is important to know how to find answers, and how to think through questions, not just be able to memorize facts.
