I have been tutoring since I was in high school. My students have ranged from kindergartners to college students, and most of them still keep in touch. I love that one moment of clarity they experience when I've finally found the way to explain the material that makes sense to them, and it's why I never get tired of the job.
I like to pinpoint my student's strengths and weaknesses in the first session so that I can focus on their learning style. I make sure I'm familiar and confident enough with the material I'm teaching so that I can manipulate the ways I explain it. I have enough experience to be familiar with enough examples to accompany a theoretical explanation. I've cut pieces of paper to teach geometry, lined up erasers for an algebra lesson, and sketched an entire classroom to demonstrate probability. Learning is an interactive process and a sense of humor never fails.
