I graduated from UC Davis, where I received a B.A. in English and minored in Biological Sciences. While in college I was able to tutor students in college algebra and writing. I was also a student adviser, which allowed me to speak directly with students who were unsure of their future path. I counseled them in the types of classes they should take and offered ideas of how to obtain jobs and internships in order to help them succeed with their goals after graduation. I made sure to be patient with students and continued to work with them until they were able to get the results they wanted.
My greatest strengths lie in tutoring reading, writing, and biology. I have helped many students throughout my college career come to a better understanding of these subjects by taking small steps that eventually lead to the subject's bigger picture. If writing an essay is difficult for a student, I make sure to clearly explain the different parts of an essay, go over some sample essays, and then brainstorm with the student on ideas about his or her essay. By gaining a solid grasp in a subject that was once not easily understood, I have found that students become more motivated to want to keep learning about that subject.
Additionally, I am a very approachable person and have no trouble speaking with a wide variety of people that may differ in age, gender, culture, or creed. My outgoing personality and openness serve as useful qualities as students often feel comfortable asking me questions, which ultimately benefits their learning.
