Hi, my name is David! I specialize in SAT/ACT test prep, Physics, Math, and Statistics.
My Background: I graduated from UC Santa Barbara with degrees in Physics and Philosophy. While in school, I worked part-time tutoring younger kids in all subjects. Shortly before graduating, I started teaching high school students in SAT and ACT prep, as well as AP Physics and Calculus. Through my experience I have developed a unique and effective approach in teaching these subjects. My greatest strength is to make seemingly complicated material simple and understandable.
Having studied physics in university, I have solved thousands of physics and math problems in my life, so I have seen myself how problem solving skills improve and develop. I've seen that improvement in math and physics requires a development of two specific areas. First, developing intuitive understanding is very important, and I help students to develop their understanding by explaining the subject matter in a simple, straightforward way. I use lots of drawings and visual imagery to make the concepts intuitive. Second, it is an important part of my tutoring to help students to become better at actually solving problems on their own. To accomplish that, I challenge students with tough problems at the right time.
I also studied philosophy in school, which means that I've had to learn how to read and understand complicated philosophical and literary works. Philosophy classes are also based on picking apart the logic of written arguments and literature. These skills have helped me to become an effective English and Language Arts tutor as well. The skills I developed in studying philosophy have proven especially effective in helping students on the SAT Reading and Essay sections.
If you are having trouble with any of these subjects, please feel free to contact me! I have helped many students accomplish their academic goals, and I'm very confident that I can help you as well. Plus, I provide our first two hour lesson risk-free, so if you decide that you would not like to continue tutoring with me, I won't charge you for it.
Thanks very much for your interest!
