If you’re looking to match a special tutor with a special student, I hope you will contact me! I’m an educator, writer, curriculum developer, artist, and musician with over 20 years teaching experience in classrooms, afterschool programs, and community settings. I hold a Master’s degree in Education from Harvard University, where I focused on Arts in Education. I’m adept at bringing school subjects to life with a creative approach.
I specialize in working with children from kindergarten
through the elementary grades – covering all English Language
Arts areas from early literacy through phonics
comprehension, and other fundamental skills. I also tutor in elementary math
concepts, Social Studies
, and science
Research shows that early support and remediation make a significant difference in students’ later academic success and self-confidence. I can help by providing patient, supportive instruction and help with homework, school projects, enrichment, study skills
, and organization
. Making learning fun is one of my goals. I believe that students are more eager to learn when they can be creative and engaged. When appropriate, I enjoy using hands-on approaches such as educational games, book-making, art
projects related to school subjects, and creative drama activities - to facilitate learning and keep students motivated.
Along with tutoring, I would be happy to help any homeschool
families develop “learning expeditions,” units of study, creative projects, or other resources. I am also happy to work with older students in any area of reading or writing. Finally, please consider me if you’re looking for a flute
teacher or Spanish
My previous experience includes work primarily with children in preschool
and kindergarten through the elementary grades. I served for twelve years as an Afterschool Education Coordinator – a position in which I administered educational testing and developed/implemented individual tutoring plans for 1st- 5th grade
students. I have also served as a paraprofessional (teacher’s assistant) in bilingual and Special Needs
classes, as a tutor for English Language Learners, and as a public school Teaching Artist. Recently, I moved to California from Massachusetts – where I hold teaching certification in Visual Art PreK-9.
I look forward to speaking with you about your tutoring needs, and I hope to be of service!
