Hello my name is Edwin G. I have over 15 years of experience teaching and working in the animation industry as a Character Animator, Character Designer, Layout Artist, Traditional Illustration, and Professor. I have an AA degree in fine arts, A BA degree in Media Arts/Animation from the Art Institute of California Los Angeles, and an MFA in Animation/Illustration from the Academy of Art University. My teaching style comes from the lesson I learned in my industry and I try and give students a real world education to prepare them for college level courses and for a career in the art field. In the last ten years as a Professor I have worked at private colleges, and community colleges, and have gained valuable experience in creating effective lesson plans that help the students in developing a good portfolio and a passion for their field of study. As a professor I enjoy what I teach and practice what I preach on a daily basis, and I feel that with right mindset and good creative energy a young mind can do great things in life.

Adobe Flash

I have been working with Flash since its MX days and have seen the program grow and advance in many different levels. My focus with flash has been in character animation and layout. In 2001 I worked on a show for the cartoon network as a freelance animator, and continued to advance my skill level as an animator/ layout artist. In 2003 -2004 I worked at Klasky Csupo as a layout artist/animator, and developed two pilot shows that helped me push my flash production skills. I currently use flash as a tool to help teach the principles of character animation and continue to use the tools in flash to push the boundaries of character animation.

Adobe Photoshop

My qualifications in Photoshop are as follows.

1. I have a BFA in media arts animation and an MFA in media animation.

2. I have over ten years of creating lesson plans and and working with students of all Photoshop levels.

Drawing

I have been working as a professional illustrator for the last 17 years. I have studied the great artist of the renaissance to get a better understanding of how traditional art was created. I am also a student and preacher of the art of shape based drawing techniques which help the artist develop a good understanding of volume, shape, form, perspective, and spacing. My four years at the Art Institute I took classes that helped me define my skill set, and created my own technique to help me simplify the lessons of the masters. I know use that method to help teach illustration both environmental and character based. I know teach workshops for colleges and teach advanced level classes in illustration. I also graduated with a MFA in Illustration/Animation, and continue to study the human form and the art of perspective to help keep my skill level fresh and up to date.

Maya

I have been studying and working with Maya since the year 2001, and have worked on Studio based projects that required me to develop Maya animation, character layouts, environment modeling, organic modeling and hard surface modeling. As a professor of game art I have taught advanced Maya classes with an emphases in game creation. Being a professor you need to be able to not only teach the ins and outs of the program, but you also need to develop a curriculum that creates a focus on a pipeline structure that mimics the inner workings of a professional game studio. With that said I have developed working relationships with game studios to help me as an instructor create better curriculum that is up to date with industry needs.
